LIVERPOOL AIM TO DEAL IN VICTOR VALDES THIS MONTH

as_valdes_36

Liverpool aim to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes this month.

A deal could be struck inside the next fortnight.

The Daily Express says the goalkeeper has been tipped to link up with Brendan Rodgers at Anfield after being released by the Spanish giants at the end of the last season, and reports claim that he will undergo a medical with the Premier League giants during the international break.

Valdes saw a move to Monaco break down over the summer after suffering a serious injury that saw his Nou Camp career end abruptly, but the Reds are confident he will be able to challenge current No.1Simon Mignolet once he works his way back to full fitness.

Gareth Bale Finally Wins Over Real Madrid Fans With 30-Yard Missile

Real Madrid's Bale celebrates his goal during their Spanish first division soccer match against Elche in Madrid

Former Tottenham star Gareth Bale produced his best goal for Real Madrid to lead Los Blancos to a 3-0 win over Elche.

After his record-breaking £91m transfer from Spurs in the summer, Gareth Bale has struggled to make the impact expected at Real Madrid and fans at the Santiago Bernabeu were getting impatient.

However Bale has finally regained full fitness and appears reinvigorated – as demonstrated by his 30-yard rocket against Elche.

Bale’s strike, delivered with his left foot, took just seconds to arrow into the net, and Real Madrid fans just what their club had broken the world transfer record for.

Despite the criticism, Bale has now managed 13 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions and has grabbed 10 assists, more than any other player at the club.

The goal was the 16th Real have scored from outside the box this season, more than any other team in La Liga, and propelled them to a victory which makes them favourites to take the title in May.

Real are now three points clear of Barcelona and Atletico de Madrid, both of whom lost this weekend.

Meet the Liverpool Prodigy Being Compared to Barcelona Legend Ronald Koeman

thiago-llori

Liverpool’s players aren’t just earning rave reviews in the Premier League at the moment. One of the youngest members of their squad has captured the imagination of pundits in Spain, earning comparisons with an all-time La Liga legend.

Tiago Llori has yet to feature for Liverpool since signing from Sporting Lisbon for around £8million on summer deadline day. The arrival of Mamadou Sakho in the same transfer window, coupled with the consistent form of Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure, has denied Llori any opportunities to impress in competitive action, and persuaded Brendan Rodgers to send him out on loan.

On 20 January 2014 Llori moved to Granada on loan until the end of the current season. And he immediately impressed in his debut gainst Espanyol, looking composed on the ball and aware in his positioning, even venturing forward on a few occasions to get his head on the end of crosses. But this first outing was nothing compared to his home debut against Real Betis.

Llori wowed the Granada fans at Los Cármenes yesterday with a pin-point long ball to set up striker Piti to score the only goal of the game. It was the only mark of genuine quality in the game, and afterwards the Spanish press were quick to deliver a glowing verdict.

Spain’s biggest sports paper, Marca, ran its match report with the headline El pase a lo Koeman de Ilori que dio la victoria al Granada [the Koeman-style pass from Lllori which gave Granada victory]. In the article, the reporter said that Llori “delivered a long pass in the purest style of Koeman” to set up Granada’s win. Praise indeed.

marca-llori-headline

In case anyone has forgotten, Koeman was the lynchpin of the great Barcelona and Holland sides of the late 80s and early 90s. Operating as a sweeper, he orchestrated attacks in the manner of Franz Beckenbaeur and became renowned as a free-kick specialist, winning the 1992 European Cup final with a 25-yard piledriver at Wembley.

In truth, Llori is a very different player from Koeman. He is a quick and agile player, and usually features as a conventional centre-back, whereas Koeman swept behind. Yet his superb distribution of the ball means the comparison has merit, and could offer something different to Brendan Rodgers’ squad next season.

In modern-football, the ball-playing centre-back, capable of starting attacks and making the extra man in midfield, is a must – Gerard Pique, Mats Hummels and Rio Ferdinand have all refined this particular discipline into an art form. Llori has a long way to go yet, but he looks to have all the attributes to join this elite band.

Top 15 Controversial Moments From World Cups

with just months to the world cup in brazil, i bring to you 15 most controversial moments at the world cup. enjoy!

1. Maradona Drug Taking

Arguably the most controversial figure in the history of football, Diego Maradona was sent home from the 1994 World Cup after failing a drugs test.
2. Escobar Shooting

Andreas Escobar was a central defender in a promising Colombian team which underperformed at the 1994 World Cup. Escobar’s own goal eliminated them from the tournament, and he was tragically shot by betting syndicates on his return to Colombia and died at the age of just 27.
3. Were Peru Bribed?
.

During the 1978 World Cup, Argentina needed to beat a strong Peru side by four clear goals to stay in the tournament. The hosts ultimately brushed Peru aside 6-0, going on to with the World Cup, and rumours continue to this day that the military junta which controlled Argentina at the time bribed the Peruvian team.
4. Dutch Partying

Before the 1974 World Cup final, it is alleged that the Dutch team partied in their hotel with call girls. This has been strenuously denied, but remains a popular rumour.
5. Schumacher Foul

In 1982, the French national side were the most attractive football team in the world, and favourites to beat Germany in the semi-finals. With the score 1-1, the German goalkeeper, Harald Schumacher, committed one of the most memorable fouls of all-time on Patrick Battiston, virtually decapitating the Frenchman. Incredibly no foul was given, and Germany eventually advanced to the final.
6. The Russian Linesman

The third English goal in the 1966 World Cup final is infamous for the prevarication of the Russian linesman, who ultimately (wrongly) awarded the goal.
7. Pele Kicked out of the 1966 World Cup

Possibly the best player in the history of the game, Pele, was brutally and systematically kicked out of the 1966 World Cup. He would win his third winners’ medal four years later in Mexico.
8. The Battle of Santiago

Certainly the most violent game in World Cup history, the 1962 World Cup match between Chile and Italy finished in a 2-0 win for the South Americans, but is more notable for the two teams (quite entertainingly) kicking the proverbial out of each other.
9. Zinedine Zidane Headbutt

Zinedine Zidane was an icon all over the world, the subject of a unique film, and the best footballer of his generation. Yet his last act on a football field was to need lessly head butt Marco Materazzi to earn a red card in the 2006 World Cup final.
10. The Hand of God

Diego Maradona’s infamous handball goal opened the scoring in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final between England and Argentina. Three minutes later, Maradona scored what is considered by many to be the greatest goal of all-time.
11. Italy and fascism

During the 1938 World Cup, due to direct orders from Mussolini, the team took to the field in black shirts, the Maglia Nera, a symbol of the feared and despised Italian fascist paramilitary.
12. Bobby Moore theft scandal

During the 1970 World Cup, England’s captain was apprehended for allegedly stealing a bracelet during a shopping trip. Moore was later cleared of any wrong doing.
13. The Germany-Austria truce

The 1982 World Cup qualifier between Austria and West Germany was a rather phony war. With a 1-0 win for Germany meaning both teams would qualify, Austria conceded early on, and eventually the two teams were barely attempting to win the ball back from one another.
14. Voller spitting

During the 1990 World Cup clash between the Netherlands and Germany, the German forward Rudi Voller famously spat at the Dutch midfielder Frank Rijkaard.
15. Kuwaiti storms the field

When France scored a goal against Kuwait in the 1982 World Cup, Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, president of the Kuwait Football Association, stormed onto the field believing that the Kuwaiti players had stopped due to a whistle from the crowd. France regained their composure and won 4-1.

Nokia’s Normandy Might Not be Their Only Android Phone to Land This Year

For a long time now, the Nokia X, or the Normandy as we used to know it, has been rumored to coming to market. It’s leaked out a number of times, and it’s pretty safe to say that Nokia’s “secret” is no longer going to be a surprise to a lot of people. Now though, some interesting news is coming out of China that suggests Nokia isn’t looking to use Android for a one-night stand, and is instead ready to release a whole line of them later on this year. Chinese sources are suggesting that Nokia has plans for several device coming up towards May – June later this year and that some of the devices might be more in like with what Nokia fans would like to see running Android.

According to sources from Artesyn Technologies, Nokia has been testing several other Android devices, besides the Nokia X and that they’re all but ready to get their approval from the FCC. Artesyn Technologies is one of the many suppliers that has a hand in building Nokia’s devices, so there’s a chance that someone there knows something about Nokia’s plan with Android. Still though, these are just rumors and as such, you should have the salt on hand. We have to ask ourselves though, if Nokia had more devices in the pipeline, then why is it just the Nokia X that has leaked out so much? Surely if information concerning the Normandy is easy enough to get hold of, then so should information concerning these other devices?

No matter what though, we can’t see Nokia going all that far with Android any more. Once they signed that deal with Microsoft, that was pretty much it for an Android – Nokia device line. Sure, the Nokia X is still coming to market, but this is only because Nokia needs Android to better service their low-end options. And, unlike the concept image we’re all familiar with by now, the Nokia X is definitely not a “with Google” device, and sadly any other devices wouldn’t be, either.Image

Nintendo Did Not Force Flappy Bird Creator Dong Nguyen to Remove Game from App Store

The hit smartphone game Flappy Bird was not removed from Apple’s App Store following a complaint of copyright infringement by Nintendo – despite reports to the contrary.

According to a source who spoke to the Apple’N’Apps website, Vietnamese-based developer Nguyen was forced to remove the app from Apple’s App Store after Japanese gaming giant Nintendo got in touch with Apple “regarding the art assets in Flappy Bird claiming that they’re in direct violation of their copyrights.”

When Nguyen announced on Twitter the very specific 22-hour countdown to the removal of Flappy Birds from app stores, it seemed a little incongruous that the reason for the surprise decision was down to the unwanted attention ruining his “simple life” – as the Vietnamese developer claimed.

It was odd for three reasons:

  • One: If the unwanted emails and tweets were ruining his life, could he not simply delete his social media accounts, change emails and therefore continue to enjoy the reported £30,000 the app was generating for him each month?
    • Two: If he was going to remove the game why not just do so immediately, why wait 22 hours?
    • Three: If there was not legal problem with the game, why not sell it for a huge amount of money and therefore reap the financial rewards without the headache of unwanted attention?

The reason some people have argued that Nintendo could ahve contacted Apple was the similarity of the pipes which are used in the game, through which you have to try and guide the eponymous bird and the pipes which appear in Super Mario games.

As you can see below, they use practically identically colours, design and even shading as the iconic green pipes which Mario used to travel around his game universe.

Nguyen specifically said on Twitter on Saturday night after he announced the 22 hour countdown that the reason he was taking the game down was “not anything related to legal issues”.

Sochi Olympics 2014: Google Joins Gay Rights Campaign With Rainbow Flag Doodle

On the opening day of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Google has taken a major stance against Russia’s anti-gay laws by creating a Google Doodle which features the colours of the rainbow flag.
The Doodle appears on all of Google’s homepages and features the red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple colours of the instantly recognisable rainbow flag which is a symbol of gay pride.
Google has also added a pointed quote from the Olympic Charter just below the Doodle, which reads:
“The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”
Anti-LGBT discrimination
Chad Griffin from the Human Rights Campaign congratulated Google on its stance:

”Google has once again proven itself to be a true corporate leader for equality. Alongside Olympic sponsors like AT&T, Google has made a clear and unequivocal statement that Russia’s anti-LGBT discrimination is indefensible.
“Now it’s time for each and every remaining Olympic sponsor to follow their lead. The clock is ticking, and the world is watching,” Griffin added.
Rebranding
Google Doodle follows the decision of UK broadcaster Channel 4 to rebrand its logo from Friday, also featuring the colours of the rainbow flag.
Channel 4, which has the rights to the Paralympic Winter Games, will also debut a 90-second ad at 7pm on Friday as live coverage of the opening ceremony begins on BBC. The ‘Gay Mountain’ ad will play across all Channel 4 related channels (E4, More 4 and catch-up station 4Seven).
The ad, which pokes fun at Russian’s laws, features a ‘bear’ cabaret act and uses the tagline “Good luck to everyone out in Sochi.”
Warning
In the run up to the Olympics Russian politicians warned athletes and spectators against promoting gay rights during the games.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said it was forbidden by the Olympic Charter and Russian law to spread propaganda during a sporting event.
Last July President Vladimir Putin signed a law which outlaws pro-gay “propaganda” that could be accessible to minors, but it is seen by campaigners as a way for Russian authorities to stamp out any public expression of support for gay rights.
This week gay rights activists have been holding protests in 19 cities around the world and asking official sponsors such as McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Samsung and Visa to speak against Russia’s new laws on homosexuality.2014-winter-olympics-5710368030588928-hp

Apple iPhone 6 to Debut 10MP Camera, New IGZO 5.5in Display and 2GB RAM?

Fresh rumours about the release date of Apple’s next generation iPhone (the iPhone 6) have surfaced online, hinting at different screen sizes, a new IGZO display technology and 2GB RAM among various other hardware specifications.

However, some projections in the report do seem off-mark since the new Flat Panel Display (FPD) technology has never been used by Apple.

According to the report, the iPhone 6 will ship with two screen sizes, 4.7 or 4.8in and a 5.5in. Both the display variants are expected to support 1920 x 1080 (440ppi) and 2272 x 1280 (510ppi) screen resolution respectively and run on indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) technology instead of the low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) technology found in current iPhones.

Though the claimed display sizes for the iPhone 6 seem to be consistent with earlier rumours, it is a contradiction that LTPS displays would be replaced with IGZO as LTPS offers greater battery-life and screen brightness.

On the flip side, IGZO is the preferred technology in the tablet market, given the limitations with creating LTPS displays of those sizes and their support for higher display resolution on larger screens.

In related news, the iPhone 6 is expected to get a considerable bump in RAM to 2GB along with an upgraded 3.2MP front facing camera. The rear camera is expected to retain an 8MP sensor found in current generation iPhones.

In addition, a new A8 chip and 128GB storage expansion slot are on the cards.

In a related report, a Chinese website citing Taiwan’s industry chain claims that the rear camera will feature a 10MP sensor with an improved f/1.8 aperture. As the iPhone 5s currently features an 8MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture, it implies that the upcoming iPhone will port a completely new hardware and not just a sensor upgrade.

The second report further claims that the hybrid IR filters in iPhone 5s will be replaced with a resin lens filter made by a Japanese company JSR, as the latter has better colour correction and image clarity for CMOS sensors than the former.

Another questionable claim points to the rumoured mobile operating system, iOS 7.2, which is said to debut with the release of iPhone 6. This is a contradiction to Apple’s tradition, as every new iPhone launch is accompanied by a major iOS release rather than a minor update.

iPhone 6 is likely to launch with iOS 8 onboard as this theory is supported by recently leaked web logs and various other sources showing evidence of an iWatch project connected to the iOS 8 debut release. Another point of interest is that there is hardly any proof of Apple’s development work on iOS 7.2.

Furthermore, the speculated June launch window does not match with Apple’s tradition of releasing its hardware products at the end of the third quarter or early into fourth quarter. Besides, the June release date for iPhone 6 is too early for an annual release cycle with Apple.

So, it is likely that Apple will continue to adopt a fall launch that has been the norm for three iPhone generations since iPhone 4s.apple-iphone-6-release-rumours-10mp-camera-new-igzo-5-5in-display-2gb-ram
